Confessions of St. Augustines : Vocabulary

Perils: exposure to the risk of being injured, destroyed, or lost. 











Zealously: marked by fervent partisanship for a person, a cause, or an ideal 












Porridge: is a dish made by boiling oats (rolled, crushed, or steel cut) or other cereal meals in watermilk, or both












Pious:  marked by or showing reverence for deity and devotion to divine worship.











Martyrs:  somebody who suffers persecution and death for refusing to renounce, or accept, a belief or cause, usually religious.




Catechumen: person under instruction in the rudiments of Christianity, as in the early church











Bier: a framework for carrying









Gluttony:  excess in eating or drinking








Incongruous: not harmonious


Gibe:  to utter taunting words
